Hawaiian Culture

Hawaiian Culture | Maui Private School | Maui Elementary School The rich history and traditions of the Hawaiian Islands are experienced through art, dance, music, language, and story-telling.

One of the most popular events of the year is our annual Ho’ike Day celebration.

“Ho’ike” is defined as a final test or exhibition in the Hawaiian language, and is a time for students to exhibit everything they have learned in front of a large audience of parents, grandparents, and special guests.

Students learn about Hawaiian culture and arts throughout the school year, including the traditions and history of hula, lei making, celestial navigation, canoe making, the importance of food and medicines, fishing and net making, and more.
